I follow Julia Cameron on Facebook.
Julia Cameron is the author of The Artist's Way, which is an international best-seller book based on her popular workshops on how to unlock creativity and live from a more creative center.
Today she posted on Facebook, 'Anything worth doing is worth doing badly. How we hate that idea. Creativity requires faith and faith requires that we relinquish control.'
Interesting.
There are some things that I do badly but I do them just because they need doing.
Cooking, for instance. I can't cook. I do cook and my family does eat regularly, but really? People who know me well usually cook for me or meet me at a restaurant if they want to get together during the dinner hour.
But Julia is all about creativity, so she'd probably be applauding my attempts at cooking. Applauding and then honestly? She'd be ordering pizza.
For the past few weeks, I've been reviewing Julia Cameron's site, http://www.myartistswaytoolkit.com
The site is a web based platform that allows a writer to access and record their creativity in a friendly digital way.
It also allows one to unblock their writing using proven Artist's Way exercises, trace one’s creative process in a notebook and receive daily inspirations, affirmations, and writing ideas from Julia.
You also have to pledge to write creatively every day.
Did I take the pledge to write every day? Yes, yes I did.
Do I always do it? Honestly? No.
But because my iPhone is always with me I have done more writing since I've been using this site.
I’ve also been far more creative and my writing has taken some interesting turns since I’ve tried following the prompts that Julia provides.
And a more creative me is a happier me.
And a happier me? That's a good thing.
Don’t believe me? Just ask my family.
