For the next three Saturday nights I have to get all dressed up for three different Christmas parties and fund raisers.
These are not the 'throw on a nice sweater and dress pants' kinda event, but true black tie affairs that require stockings, hair appointments, pedicures and stupid high heel shoes.
I don't like it.
I used to enjoy getting all dolled up to go out. I am now trying to figure out what changed. When did sitting in front of the TV, watching a movie and eating popcorn in my sweats on a Saturday night become more attractive then getting all gussied up and going out?
I think it was sometime around the gaining of the baby pounds that it began to lose its appeal. Before I had my trio dress-up clothes fit me if not well, then okay. Now these 'gowns' I'm trying to squeeze into are starting to resemble sausage casings.
It is also possible that going out became a little less interesting around the time that I needed to start organizing baby sitters. Now I have to watch the clock and the amount I drink so I can responsibly drive a thirteen year old home by 11 pm.
If I'm being honest it might also have something to do with the need to make small talk at these events with people who I want to well, not impress but not say stupid drunken things to either.
Sigh.
I want to be young, free and irresponsible again.
But, if you'll excuse me I have to go now and get this gray touched out of my hair before the sitter arrives.
And then I've got to go and find something to wear. Anyone know if they make dress up clothes out of fleece?
I'm Leanne and I'm a tired mama. I work, I parent, I juggle and I don't seem to get enough sleep. Welcome to the place where I rant about all these things...

I too want to be young, free and irresponsible again. Now, if only I can with a toddler and a husband in tow...

Ahhh, yes. The whole packing on the baby pounds thing has seemed to put a damper on my gussying up and painting the town days, as well. It also doesn't help that I can't seem to keep my eyes open after 9 pm. *sigh*

I don't like to get dressed up either! Let alone 3 times. Check Old Navy for a fleece dress :)

I'm so with you! I hate all the formal parties coming up. Nothing spells fun like an uncomfortable outfit, right?
If YOU find a formal fleece, you have to let us know! What I wouldn't do for THAT!

I used to like to go out, but truly, now I'd much rather sit at home and watch a movie with my husband after the boys have gone to bed. After all, you can't wear your comfy pj's to the theater, and there is no fire place, either!

Give me sweats with popcorn anytime! Well, not together to wear, but you know what I mean.

Since it was Mr. TiredMama dropping off the babysitter, I'm hoping it was you who had a fun and carefree evening after all!

Well, I suggest next years party be a movie party with popcorn and sweats! You looked wonderful :) And if people are truly your friends they will just ignore any silly things you say. Besides, people need something to talk about on Sundays you know...

Hi there, just an addition. Found....1 grey (I know, boring) fleece baggy dress. Good for hiding under when feeling fat... at H&M. I'm sure it comes in other more Christamsy colours, like black! Happy party weekend number 2!
